Wayne Thalls, KB6KN SK

I am sad to report my dad, Wayne Thalls, KB6KN, passed away May 18th.

Dad was very active in the Santa Cruz ham community from the 1980’s.  He was an active member of the Santa Cruz County ARC serving as editor of Short Skip and president of the club.  Some of his historical work is published on the Short Skip web site.  At the time of the Loma Prieta earthquake he was an AEC for the Santa Cruz County ARES and was very involved in the ARES activities supporting the response to the earthquake.  For many years after the earthquake he continued to be an active member of the ARES group.

History and historical research fascinated Dad.  Ham radio was one of his favorite research topics and he wrote several articles on John Reinartz, K6BJ, and the history of the Santa Cruz radio club.

Dad began his ham career over 70 years ago in Indiana while still in high school.  Like many from his generation, ham radio was the basis for building a career in electronics.
